Map Testing REMINDER

Once again, MAP testing is scheduled to start Tuesday, Jun 1—TOMORROW. Normally, we would do this in-school, of course. We are planning to facilitate it for at-home administration for Grades 2-8.

The first step is to determine that your devices and internet are at least at the minimum readiness requirements. To do that, use this link and follow the steps for each device.

We will follow the schedule on the Map Testing Schedule for the sessions which will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. When it is your child’s testing time, he/she can click on the red Meet link to join with a teacher for instructions. (The link is the same for ALL sessions for ALL grades.) A test link and session code will be posted in the two right columns to begin the test. After instructions, students will be dismissed from the Meet, but can re-join anytime for questions or clarification. Of course, students cannot receive help from others or from other resources.

As the notes on the shared sheet explain, the main purpose of the testing is to help us on the school side to evaluate how well we are delivering the school curriculum. It will help your child realize that it is not so much about evaluating them. As before, we will distribute reports on the norm-referenced results with the next issue of report cards. See the Notes area for more pointers.

If you feel this would be too stressful for your child, please let us know and we will happily make other arrangements when school is back in session.

I hope you and your children enjoy the challenge!

MAP Testing

Dear Parents,

Once again, MAP testing is scheduled to start Tuesday, Jun 1.

Enough for me!

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” May that be enough for us!I Will Never Leave You Nor Forsake You Sign, Scripture ...

Bless you, Grade 7 and 8s, for all your diligence and hard work! These are not easy times, but every day is one step closer and every day with you in it is a special blessing! Thank you, Miss Eade, for keeping us challenged and interested in learning every day!

3D Printer

We are excited to announce that we are adding a 3D Printer to our learning tools lineup just in time for school break experimentation. This is entirely optional. We are opening the opportunity for students to think about their future and learn about…
  • -Computer Numerical Control (CNC) operations. A 3D printer is essentially a CNC machine, but with an extruder nozzle instead of a router. This short video shows kids how 3D printers work.
  • -Design: Autodesk has a free application for home/hobby users. It is quite advanced to be designing things, but your child may be really interested and motivated to learn. A good place to start is with this free 30-lesson tutorial
  • A site especially for kids is Teach Your Kids Code. It uses the kid-friendly TinkerCAD as a learning tool. I recommend it; see instructions below.
The printer we will have in January is a popular and reasonably-priced machine: the Creality Ender 3 V2.

The Invitation
Students are invited to either find or modify a design from a site like this or design one of their own using the software mentioned above. To print it, I will need the .stl file. A few things to keep in mind.
1. We can print at the school, but don’t count on us to design objects.
2. Printing will be done in single colours only (white, black, blue or red).
3. The first single small object can be printed for free, but multiple small objects or larger may be charged for materials used. We may go to a $3-5 flat rate for subsequent objects to replenish the supplies.
4. To be eligible to print something, students must include with the request a) 2-3 sentences on why they would like this printed, and b) a 2-3 sentence explanation in their own words how a 3D printer works.
Joining a TinkerCAD Class
This is not a necessity but it makes sharing ideas and designs easier.
