Map Testing REMINDER

Once again, MAP testing is scheduled to start Tuesday, Jun 1—TOMORROW. Normally, we would do this in-school, of course. We are planning to facilitate it for at-home administration for Grades 2-8.

The first step is to determine that your devices and internet are at least at the minimum readiness requirements. To do that, use this link and follow the steps for each device.

We will follow the schedule on the Map Testing Schedule for the sessions which will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. When it is your child’s testing time, he/she can click on the red Meet link to join with a teacher for instructions. (The link is the same for ALL sessions for ALL grades.) A test link and session code will be posted in the two right columns to begin the test. After instructions, students will be dismissed from the Meet, but can re-join anytime for questions or clarification. Of course, students cannot receive help from others or from other resources.

As the notes on the shared sheet explain, the main purpose of the testing is to help us on the school side to evaluate how well we are delivering the school curriculum. It will help your child realize that it is not so much about evaluating them. As before, we will distribute reports on the norm-referenced results with the next issue of report cards. See the Notes area for more pointers.

If you feel this would be too stressful for your child, please let us know and we will happily make other arrangements when school is back in session.

I hope you and your children enjoy the challenge!

MAP Testing

Dear Parents,

Worthy Walking

Do you know that our  school verse is Colossians 1:9-10? Be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Who walks worthy of the Lord?

walk worthy 2 | Goal: series art (version 1) Audience ...

Thank you, Grade 5/6 class, for faithfully doing your work each day, for keeping up with positive attitudes, and for showing up in your Meets each day to bring a little more joy to others. Thank you, Mrs. Van Ryn, for teaching with heart and leading our little ones onward and to the feet of Jesus every day!

Fun with Chemistry Virtual Session

We have a paid booking with the Ontario Science Centre for a virtual school program! By this time, we will be back to in-person learning again, DV, so you will not need the link unless you are absent. Parents can possibly join, but I cannot guarantee that. Be aware that the information will likely have an evolution bias, so parents are advised to discuss this with their children in advance or afterwards.

Each virtual school program will:

·       have a maximum of 3 groups participating; we rely on the information you provided on the booking form to ensure capacity and therefore cannot accommodate other classes joining your booking.
·       use the Zoom video conferencing platform following various school board guidelines for video conferencing platforms. Given school board guidelines for external organizations, we cannot use Google Meet. You may, however, broadcast our Zoom link through another platform to your students.

·       use a webinar format with the Science Educator visible on your video screen.  Teachers and students will not be visible on screen and will engage in discussion through the Q&A function moderated by a Science Educator.

Please join the webinar at least 5 minutes prior to the program start time to ensure a prompt start.

Problem of the Week: Interest-ing!

January is almost done and February is upon us. For those of us in Southwestern Ontario, we look forward to Tuesday when a local groundhog will predict the amount of time until spring-like weather.

This week we look at two different strategies to save money. Enjoy.

A link to the solution to last week’s problem is included in this email. This is a great opportunity for students to do some research of their own.

We are excited to see the continued growth of Problem of the Week. Thanks for your support and encouragement.

Stay warm and happy problem solving.

That’s a Lot of Water

Ready for the Problem of the Week challenge?

There are so many things that are distracting us. Thanks for letting us be a part of what you are doing.

This week we look at conserving “virtual” water. Enjoy.

A link to the solution to last week’s problem is included in this email. Using a Mira or paper folding could help in finding the completed diagrams.

Happy problem solving.
