Employment Opportunities

Alliston Community Christian School is presently looking for qualified applicants for the following positions:

At present, ACCS does not have a current opening for these positions, but we always welcome your applications as we may be looking for someone in the future!

Supply Teachers: Throughout the year, ACCS welcomes applications to be added to our supply teacher database. Our school is often complimented for being a great place for supply teachers to work.  If you hold a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Religious Education, your Ontario College of Teachers certification, or your Christian Schools Teaching Certificate, please send us your resume, a statement of Christian faith, and references.  We’d love to arrange an interview to get to know you!

Personal Support Workers: Sometimes children need help navigating successfully through their day.  We’re looking for Personal Support Workers who will provide health and welfare assistance to students.  Educational assistance is a secondary activity for a PSW.  As a PSW you would work with an individualized assistance plan for a student, ensuring that activities throughout the day are pursued effectively and safely.   Every day, you will be making a positive impact in a child’s life!  We will be looking for someone who is a Christian; with a compassionate heart for children; competent; has good communication skills; and a team-worker.  A current Vulnerable Sector Police Screening is required, and if you do not currently have First Aid/CPR training, it will be provided to you.  In your application, please include:

  • A cover letter and a statement of your Christian faith
  • Your resume
  • Two or more references who may be contacted

Educational Assistants: Alliston Community Christian School is looking for educational assistants to join our team! As an Educational Assistant, you’d be asked to provide educational support for children identified for special assistance by an Individual Education Plan (IEP).  You will be working with children in 1-to-1 and/or small group settings, providing guidance and support as students complete their classwork.  Your work will be supported by the Special Education Resource Teacher and classroom teachers as you advise students ranging in age from 4 to 13 years old.  In this role, you will be influential in helping students develop a growth mindset that carries them through their future.

In your application, please include:

  • A statement of your Christian faith
  • A description of how and why you see yourself being successful working at ACCS in this role
  • A resume outlining any training and previous work experience relevant to this position
  • Two or more contact references who may be contacted

If you’re interested in applying, please send your cover letter, personal statement of faith, and resume to principal@allistonccs.com.

Alliston’s Attic Thrift Store

Alliston Community Christian School operates the Alliston’s Attic Thrift Store on Victoria Street in Alliston, Ontario.
The thrift store accepts gently used items that are suitable for resale at discounted prices.
If you need a place to shop, you should check out the store!
If you’re looking to volunteer, you should contact Miss Natalie Watson using the email address below.
Alliston’s Attic was created in 2011, and has contributed significantly to the Alliston Community Christian School financial budget over the past 10 years.  This year alone, Alliston’s Attic has donated in excess of $36,600 to our school!  Covid made it a challenge to keep the store open, but business is increasing and has been doing very well recently.  As the weather gets nicer, sales increase, and the need for volunteers increases, too.
Donations are accepted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays – giving us new inventory daily!
Some of the best things to donate are furniture and clothing.
We are also very thankful for the support of the ACCS community.  Your volunteerism has kept Alliston’s Attic open.  Your hours of labour has furthered God’s kingdom by helping parents afford independent Christian education.
Thank-you for your support!

5 Tips to Ease Frustration in Remote Learning

Looking for ways to minimize the amount of frustration and anxiety your child experiences while studying remotely?

Here are five tips to help make remote learning work.
Also, take a look at our Back-to-School Mental Health Kit for more information on Your Child’s Mental Wellness and Remote Learning.
  1. Protect your family’s downtime. You don’t want your children to feel like they’re living at school. They need time off to relax, unwind, and generally enjoy being kids. It can be helpful to wind up the school day with a predictable ritual or activity—perhaps singing a song or heading out the door for a family bike ride around the block.
  1. Tuck your child’s learning materials out of sight when it’s time to switch into family mode. This could be as simple as putting learning materials in a drawer—a powerful visual cue that will encourage your child to shift gears at the end of the school day.
  1. Encourage your child to speak openly about any challenges or frustrations they are experiencing. In addition to validating their feelings (“It makes sense that you’re feeling frustrated. It’s so annoying when your computer keeps crashing!”), you can help your child to brainstorm some possible solutions—like reaching out to the teacher to see if other students are experiencing this same problem. You want your child to recognize that it’s possible to find a way to make things better, even if a particular problem feels completely overwhelming at first.
  1. Continue to prioritize your child’s mental health. Learning can only happen when children feel safe and secure, so meeting your child’s mental health needs is a powerful way of supporting their learning while also enhancing their overall quality of life. It’s okay to make your child’s mental health the priority as you continue to parent through a strange and uncertain time.
  2. Make family devotions a priority. Start each day with reading a Psalm and a prayer for strength. You will find this makes a big difference in your day!

Remote Learning Notes and Etiquette

Hello everyone! Just a few pointers and reminders before we get going with Remote Learning on Monday…

Notes:
1. Students are expected to be in the scheduled yellow slots. Orange slots are optional, but encouraged. Teachers are available for help during the teal slots.
2. Use the links in the cells to access the meeting each day. Check in advance to make sure you can access Google Meet and that the links work for you. Password for laptops to install software, add printers, etc is ACCS2018 or ACCS.
3. For the “Office Hour” sessions (blue), remain in or just re-enter the live room (we’ll see how that works with the breaks)
4. There is a break before and after yellow blocks
5. Attendance will be taken for all yellow block sessions. Students are to stay in the room until dismissed.
6. We invite students to use the blue slots to ask questions that arise while doing their work
7. Teachers will let you know what work has to be turned in and how.

On-Line Etiquette:
1. Be in an appropriate space (not in bed, bathroom) and typical school day clothes. Make sure the background does not include a bright light or window and that it is appropriate for others to see.
2. Avoid eating/drinking during the yellow sessions.
3. Screen names must be the student’s own proper name.
4. No private chatting except as directed by the teacher.
6. Students must have learning materials readily accessible (one suggestion is to have a bin per child nearby).
7. Participation is encouraged, but raise hands and wait to be acknowledged.
8. Request to leave for washroom breaks, etc (although the sessions are not long and breaks should not normally be necessary).
9. Enter your room with your camera on and your sound off. Cameras are to remain on unless instructed otherwise by the teacher.

Let’s have a great time with this!
